Chapter 1: Introduction
Background of the study:
Generally, when people talk about being a professional, the first words that comes to mind are being a lawyer, being a doctor, being a corporate executive or being consultants in corporations or finance and legal firms. Modern society rarely views artists as professionals, and people even say that the only way that an artist can get famous is when they die. Discrimination has existed in the field of arts for a very long time in contemporary Philippine society, artists are marked as bums, they are the people who are deemed to not being capable of finding a job or a career, and often are being looked as a last choice for any career thoughts. The word appreciating is not often used as an adjective to describe people’s feeling towards artist, belittling would be. In fact belittling does not only happen in the professional world it also happens in the world of academics. Students who study art courses are often looked at as people who weren’t able to pass management, medical, liberal, and legal courses. They often associate the term “tambay and walang ginagawa” to them and to some harsher extent even the word “bobo” and slow. Stereotyping seems to be a common practice for people to do when it comes to talking about artists, and the practice seem to spread more and more.
Main objective and purpose:
The main objective of the researchers in this paper is to hopefully lessen the discrimination of artists, stereotyping of the artists and to promote art courses using empirical data that will hopefully show and argue the importance and the brilliance of art courses.
Specific objectives:
There are specific objectives that this paper is looking to achieve, with the use of empirical data which is gathered using unbiased observation and experimental techniques, namely:
1.) To prove that art is a fulfilling, effective and a meanwhile course to take up, therefore cancelling the notion of it being a “last resort” course.
2.) That the courses in art colleges are in fact profitable and are at par with the Bachelor of Science degrees and professionals.
3.) There is more to the College of Fine Arts and Design than a place to waste time.
4.) That there is also academic growth not just the growth of technical skills.
Significance of the study:
The importance of this study is not only to bring appreciation to the College of Fine Arts and Design, but also to restore credibility to the students and professionals who work in the field of art. This paper will also being back lost prestige back to the world of Art.
Delimitation of the study
The study will be conducted inside the campus of the University of Santo Thomas (UST), which is located in España, Manila in the Philippines. The study will include and limit the study towards the senior high school students and the college students of the university.

It describes how artists’ wages cannot compensate with the costly living that we are faced today. It also describe the expensive education, materials and seminars that artist’s need to have in order for people to appreciate their work.
Chapter 3: Methodology
In the planning phase, it has been agreed upon that there shall be survey distributed and answered by the students to be used for this statistical research. Non-CFAD students of University of Santo Tomas, College Unit were chosen because of its differences in its profession and mental ability. The objective is to investigate whether the misjudgment of profession and mental ability add to the affliction of underestimation.
We use inferential statistics to try to infer from the sample data what the population might think. Or, we use inferential statistics to make judgments of the probability that an observed difference between groups is a dependable one or one that might have happened by chance in this study. Thus, we use inferential statistics to make inferences from our data to more general conditions; we use descriptive statistics simply to describe what's going on in our data.

- Do you think FAD (Fine Arts and Design) students are slackers?
- Do you think FAD students are poor in mental ability?

- Do you think your course is better than FAD?
- Are you a person that sees beautiful creation?
The three major types of central tendency namely mean, median, mode are applied to estimate the "center" of a distribution of values.
- The mean utilizes all numbers in a set to express the measure of central tendency; however, outliers can distort the overall measure.
- The median gets rid of disproportionately high or low scores, but it may not adequately represent the full set of numbers.
- The mode may be less influenced by outliers and is good at representing what is "typical" for a given group of numbers, but may be useless in cases where no number occur more than once.

Chapter 5
Solution to discrimination
- We studied each survey and evaluated their answers. Most of the discrimination starts when they start stereotyping and feel that artist are excess baggage to the community. Most of their answers results to discrimination, so we put a follow up question in the bottom of the survey which says. “Are you sure you understand artists? Please take a second look at them. Thank you for your time and honesty.”
- This question will make the answerer guilty of his/her misjudgments.
Conclusion
After analyzing the data that we have gathered during our research shows that even though people can appreciate the works of an artist, they do not see a viable career out of it. People tend to see CFAD courses and students more of students of hobbies rather than academics. That is why they expect more from them and belittle them when they produce artworks that don’t satisfy them. Also, unless one is personally connected to someone in the business or field of art, one does not truly understand the importance of it.

- Art Contests throughout the University
- Artist Awareness Programs
- CFAD students and artists should act accordingly to norms that suites the current situations and they should try to keep their forms of artistic expressions in places or institutions that will allow them to do so.
- CFAD students should also abide by current constitutional, penal and city laws enacted by the republic, such as: no vandalizing, no littering and etc, and should observe proper decorum at all times.
- Expression does not mean rebellion; CFAD students should not take into the streets or create unnecessary intrusions when expressing forms of arts.
- The government should help in establishing and rebuilding cultural institutions that promote the works of artists, in order for non-artists to appreciate the artists’ art.
